Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Review:
Was I expecting much? Oh yeah! Did it deliver? Yes! And I'm so glad!

A few month ago I read Anna and the French Kiss. I didn't think I would enjoy it, (boy was I wrong!) but guess what, I loved it! So when I heard about Lola I got excited and hoped it wouldn't disappoint! And I can happily say it didn't!

It was lovely to open up this book and be welcomed by Perkins writing. I was so happy to be reading her new created story! The authors comical sense of humor was up and running again, which I was glad to hear.

It had been too long (just a bit over two months) since I had read Anna and I was in need of her amazing prose, which I totally got by the way! I was so so glad when Anna and Etienne made their first appearance. I was super glad to see them again; you should of seen my big dopey grin! I had missed them dearly! So if anyone is still yearning to read about this adorable couple, I suggest you pick this book up!

Lola is an extrardinary character - she's unique, different, original and has a spunky dress sense which I adored! I liked that she wore costumes instead of regular clothes. She made me smile each time she was "dressed to impress" in a new colorful, wild, sparkly creation. Cricket, hmm, what an interesting fella. He marches to a different beat and is so lively and energetic, that his personality springs to life onto the pages.

I was so wrapped up in the story, that when I went to read on, I was hit by the acknowledgments. I couldn't believe I was finished already! :(

Conclusion - Even though I loved Anna more, Lola does not disappoint!

I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan

I Now Pronounce You Someone Else by Erin McCahan
Here Comes the Bride — If She Can Pass Chemistry.
Eighteen-year-old Bronwen Oliver has a secret: She's really Phoebe, the lost daughter of the loving Lilywhite family. That's the only way to explain her image-obsessed mother; a kind but distant stepfather; and a brother with a small personality complex. Bronwen knows she must have been switched at birth, and she can't wait to get away from her "family" for good.
Then she meets Jared Sondervan. He's sweet, funny, everything she wants — and he has the family Bronwen has always wanted too. She falls head over heels in love, and when he proposes marriage, she joyfully accepts. But is Jared truly what she needs? And if he's not, she has to ask: What would Phoebe Lilywhite do?
Review:
When I started, I Now Pronounce You Someone Else, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. The blurb intrigued me and sounded like something right up my alley. And after reading it, I’m glad to say I enjoyed it. If your looking for a coming of age story – which I found to be different from others I’ve read – why not give this a go!
I found I connected with Bronwen some, but not a heap. I think it would be impossible not to have some connection, just because of the story and everything that’s going on. Moving on, let’s get to Jared...what do I think about him? Definite swoon material! :)
Throughout the whole book, the story kept me interested. I didn’t want to put it down and wanted to power through to the end, to find out what was going to happen.
The author’s writng was good; not GREAT!, but not bad. It was simple, clean and easy to read.
I read a few reviews before deciding to pick this book up and read in one of my friends reviews(who calls herself a romantic sap) and I quote “one of the most beautiful first kisses I have ever read”. I didn’t really think anything of it, until I came upon it... and I absolutely agree with her! Trust me it was worth the wait! After reading the kiss scene, I had to put the book down, but when  I reopened it I couldn’t help but revisit it again. ;)
The ending was perfect, I can’t emphasise that enough! Don’t get me wrong, it was sad – even brought tears to my eyes – but in the end it worked out! I liked that the author summed the story up, tied all the loose ends and didn’t leave the reader in the lurch, waiting for a ‘never gonna happen sequel’.

Getting To Know You: Book Addict

2 comments:
Hello!

Today is the first Getting To Know You interview... If you have yet to hear of this new feature/meme, I’ve just started at blog is, it’s simple! Every week, on a Wednesday, I’ll feature a blogger and interview them. You’ll get to know them and have the opportunity to meet new YA Blogs. So what are we waiting for, let’s meet our first featured blogger! Without further ado, our first participant! And here she is…

Q & A
How long have you been blogging?
I´ve actually been blogging for about a year new, I used to have a book review blog and kinda like a diary but, as you may know, in Mexico reading is not a habit many people have. So I had practically no one to talk to about books, so I closed that blog/diary until I found Goodreads and met a community of people that shared my love for books. A little after that I open Book Addict; that was two months ago.
Why did you decide to create a blog?
I wanted a place where I could share my love for books and I found that blogging was a great way to do that if you have a common interest with other people. Long story short a friend from PNR & UF Fanatics convinced me and here I am!!!!
How did your blog name originate?
That was really silly actually, my BFF got me a kindle for my B-day and at my first chance I bought like 20 books. Bookstores in Mexico rarely bring PNR books, and almost never in English, so I was so excited that I slept with my oh so lovable kindle under my pillow. One night my Hub told me “it´s like u are addicted to that thing” and I realized that I actually was/am. So Book Addict was like admitting my addiction to the world, but that´s a great addiction to have, isn´t it?
How did you get into reading? Have you always been a reader?
Well my love for reading comes from my mother, she has this giant library at her house with hundreds of books and I used to borrow *without her knowledge* books when I was young, and I became a Shakespeare Fan.
As I grew, I lost the interest because I had no one to talk about books, my mother aside so I stopped, and about one or two years ago I ran into the Twilight Saga and even though it’s not that good of a book it restarted my love for reading.
What was the last book you read, that made you feel like shouting from the rooftops, ‘cause it was that good!
That´s easy, Her Dark Destiny by Dave Ferraro, I loved that book.
Bookish and Random...
Fave Literal Book Crush...
Adrian Ivashkov - Vampire Academy
Ren Laroche - Nightshade

Zadist - Black Dagger Brotherhood

Edmond Dantes - The Count of Monte Cristo
Acheron - Dark Hunters

Favourite TV Show(s)...Friends, Fringe, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory
Favourite authors...
Richelle Mead (YA)
Andrea Cremer (YA)
J.R. Ward (Adult)
Lora Leigh (Adult)
Hardback or Ebook?
Hardback all the way but I can´t get those here so I always buy ebooks.
Quote that you live by (or simply like)...
“Never pass up new experienes, they enrich the mind” from Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell.
When your not reading, what do you like to do?
I like to go to the living room and sit with a cup of coffee or a Diet coke and some chocolates LOL!!!, I need my sugar rush and time to just relax. Sometimes I even take notes from the books on a little note pad I have.
Reading for me is like a getaway from all the responsibilities I have on a regular day, so at night it’s time for myself. It´s my own pat on the back for a hard day at work.
Thanks Karla, for being our first interviewed blogger and participating in Getting To Know You!

Hex, A Witch and Angel Tale by Ramona Wray

No comments:
Hex, A Witch and Angel Tale by Ramona Wray

Like most girls at Rosemound High School, seventeen-year-old Lily Crane is acutely aware of Ryder Kingscott. Hands down the cutest guy in school, Ryder is cool, mysterious, and utterly untouchable…especially for Lily. For when she touches someone, Lily instantly learns all about their lives. And while such a skill might seem nifty, in truth it is wrecking Lily’s life. So she is shocked when Ryder asks her out — and even more shocked to discover he has a rival. Lucian Bell is the gorgeous new kid who can’t take his eyes off of Lily. Being pursued by two hotties should make a girl happy, but Lily is skeptical. The boys act as if they’ve met before, hating each other with a passion that could only be rooted in a dark, dangerous past. A past full of terrible secrets. The
kind of secrets that could get a girl killed.

Review:
The concept of the story was intriguing and kept me on my toes, but I got a bit frustrated at times, when I first dived into this book. I found that the author put too many words around what she was actually trying to say and get across to the reader. Sometimes I found myself digging to find out what she was getting at...but then I came to a certain page and things started looking up!
After hitting page 29, it turned from being an O.K read to me not wanting to put it down. The intensity, heat, interest turned right up and left me wanting more; more story and Lily + Ryder moments!
Sometimes I got a bit confused, due to everything that was going. But to tell you the truth, it was that good, I just kept powering through!
Don’t know about you guys, but throughout the whole story, I was always rooting for Team Ryder! The main character, Lily was likeable and interesting to read about, I’m sure everyone only wanted a good outcome for her.
The past and present in this story was entwined together seamlessly, giving you just the right amount of what's going on to help you understand what needs to happen in the story. Twists and turns are weaved throughout the whole story and will leave you wondering with curiosity, trying to figure out what’s around the corner.
Don’t be fooled by this girly, pink cover. The pages of this book are filled with suspense, action and mystery!

Leaving Jetty Road by Rebecca Burton

Leaving Jetty Road by Rebecca Burton

Nat, Lise, and Sofia are best friends. This year, their last year of high school, none of them foresees the changes that will occur in their lives.
This is the year that Nat—the go-between, the peacemaker—gets a job and meets a drop-dead gorgeous chef named Josh.
This is the year that Lise—quiet, shy, and solitary Lise—decides to take control of her life by taking control of her weight.
This is the year that Sofia—the ultimate guy magnet—gets her nose pierced and falls seriously in love for the first time in her life.
This is the year that will change each of them forever.
Review:
When your stuck in a reading rut, it’s important to read only books that will help and aid you through this terrible time! After abandoning a book (which I hate doing!), I’m glad I picked this up and gave it a go!. It’s so nice getting caught up in a story and not wanting to put it down and that’s exactly what happened when I opened up this book.
I really liked reading about the characters that Burton had created – especially Nat, Lise and Sofe. I thought it would be hard to keep track of three girl protogs; just because it could get a bit messy and muddled. But after sorting out who was who, it was fine.
The author had a nice prose. I liked that she altered every few chapter between the girls, except for Sofia, which I found a bit odd. My fave of the girls, was definitely Nat, and loved when I came to her perspective in the book. Although, really you could of given me any of the three’s POV and I would of enjoyed it! I wish she’d bring out some other books!
A new Aussie favourite of mine.

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO?
All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.
John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge -- and over....

Review:
After reading a couple of Jennifer Echols books and enjoying them very much indeed, I couldn’t wait to start Going too Far. If you like Echols and her work, check this out!
Awesome stand-out characters. I instantly liked Meg; she had a wild personality, and cool blue hair! I enjoyed watching both her and John grow throughout the story.
The pace of the book moved perfectly, and was never predictable. Jennifer  Echols writing drew me in and made for an effortless read.
When Meg and John are getting to know each other, it was just so funny to read about. I couldn’t help but let out a laugh. The chemistry between the two was brilliant and made for an interesting show!
Whilst reading the story, I felt for John. And wished Meg didn’t have to push his buttons and screw with him as much as she did. But that was just the type of person she was; strong minded, a stirrer and not the type to back down. Sometimes she ended up going too far, hence the name of the title.

'Miss Amelia Hayes, welcome to The Land of Dreams. I am the staff trainer. I will call you grasshopper and you will call me sensei and I will give you the good oil. Right? And just so you know, I'm open to all kinds of bribery.'

From the moment 15-year-old Amelia begins work on the checkout at Woolworths she is sunk, gone, lost...head-over-heels in love with Chris. Chris is the funny, charming, man-about-Woolies, but he's 21, and the 6-year difference in their ages may as well be 100. Chris and Amelia talk about everything from Second Wave Feminism to Great Expectations and Alien but will he ever look at her in the way she wants him to? And if he does, will it be everything she hopes?

Review:
After reading the awesome blurb and reviews for this book, I knew I had read it! The only problem is that I think I may have gotten overly excited about reading this, which lead me to expect wayyy too much. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great read, but I think I got too hyped and thus resulted in me not liking it as much as I might of, if I had just been given this book out of the blue to read, which no expectations at all.
I loved the main characters – Amelia and Chris. And felt that they were such real true to life characters, with brimming personalities. I only wished the best for them in everything they did!
Poor, oh, poor, Amelia! I mean, what’s a girl to do? It’s understandable why she was crushing on the guy, hey, even I was!
Easy to read prose – simple, yet captivating.
An honest, coming-of-age tale that’ll leave people wondering what Laura Buzo will do next.

You Give = We Give - Help brighten someone's day this Christmas!

2 comments:

I’ve been meaning to do a post on this great cause for awhile, and here it finally is!
What is You Give = We Give
We know how great it is to receive books for Christmas, but even greater is the feeling you get when you give the gift of reading to another. In the lead up to Christmas, Jess from She Known As Jess, Rachel from The-Rest-Is-Still-Unwritten and Brodie from Eleusinian Mysteries are hosting You Give, We Give. What does that mean? It’s simple. You donate books this Christmas to help those in need and in return, you’ll be entered to win some seriously amazing prizes!
We are calling for fellow readers to make a donation of either books or money to buy books. Donated books will placed under the Kmart Wishing Tree in December, which is an annual appeal held here in Australia and New Zealand to help families in need. People place gifts under the trees, which are located in every Kmart department store, and those gifts are then given to families struggling financially. Parents who may not be in a position to buy their children a gift for Christmas. We don’t want any child to feel left out this year, so the genius behind this venture, Jess, came up with the idea to use our love of books to spread some joy to others.

You Give = We Give will run from September 10th until the middle of December. The ability to donate money through the donate button will however end earlier (November 30th) due to the fact that it will take up to 10-15 days for any purchased novels to arrive from the Book Depository.

During this time you can either:

- Make a monetary donation which will be used to purchase books from The Book Depository. Big or small, every dollar counts!-Buy a book yourself from an online bookstore and have it sent to us.
- Personally send us any extra books you have cluttering your bookshelf.

Are you involved in You Give, We Give yet? If so, what will you be sending?

Re: The Story Siren - Getting Bloggers without the SPAM

5 comments:

After reading a blog post, called Getting Followers without the SPAM by Kristi @ The Story Siren. I couldn’t help but nod my head in agreement. So here’s my long “comment”, which I originally posted on her site, but thought I’d also share it here. Before reading my comment, why not head to the post on her site.
.............................................................................................................................................
Here’s my opinion on the matter...
I completely agree with you!

I recently joined a Goodreads group, called Blogger Lift. And there's a link, called:
Need a follower write your blogs name here I'll follow. I've left my address in a comment and found some other great blogs but got annoyed when people said: following you, please follow me back. Great if your interested in their blog, but if your not, you kinda feel bad. Example, someone followed me and asked for a follower back but when I went to ther site, it was an Adult Paranormal book blog. Here's the thing... a) I'm a teen and b)I'm not into paranormal reads, cause I'm a bit of a wimp, although I did like Paranormalcy!

I've been blogging for a few months and currently up to 43 followers. I know it's hard not to obsess over how many followers you have, but the thing about blogging isn't about how many people are following you, it's about your book blogging adventures, having fun and meeting new people. And that's the thing you have to focus on! :)

At the moment, I've got 43 followers. It might not be a whole lot, but at least you have followers who like what your doing. Remember the story... Slow and steady wins the race. In the last two days, after hitting 40 followers, 3 more joined in the fun. It might of only been 3 more, but it made a difference to me. It put a nice big dopey on my face. :D

I might of not been in the blogging game for long, but I can whole heartedly tell you I love it. I love it because I get express my opinion on books, join in challenges and meme's in the blogosphere, create a layout and header that express me and my love of being creative and so much more!

So whatever the amount of followers you have on your site, remember why you do it. Why you blog? For me, it's not about being "popular", and having endless followers, it's about doing the thing you love.
What do you think of all this? Feel to leave a comment!

Too early to mention a Christmas Giveaway..?

Hey Guys,
Hope your week is going well and your indulging in a fantastic book!
Anyways, onto my second post for the day!
I am pumped. Why, you might ask? Well...it’s the holidays, I finished a great book and I’ve written the review for it, and then I got thinking of a Christmas Giveaway (I know it’s only October, but I’m thinking ahead).
I know everyone love’s giveaways, so that’s why I was thinking what better way to celebrate Christmas, than with a giveaway. And if I get a whole bunch of new followers, I’ll make the prize even sweeter, to say thanks for joining my blog!
I’m already thinking about the awesome books that I’d like to giveaway! And at the moment, I’m thinking, that I’ll make it International, so no one get’s left out!
To get more followers to join in the fun, all I ask is that if you enjoy my site why not to tell a friend about my bookish blog.

Thanks for following me on my book blogging journey so far!
:D

Noah's Law by Randa Abdel-Fattah

Noah’s Law by Randa Abdel-Fattah

Sixteen-year-old Noah is a troublemaker. His father is a hotshot barrister. This is not a good combination. When Noah gets caught mucking up at school, his dad sends him to work at his aunt's law firm during the holidays to 'learn responsibility' and 'fix his attitude'. There he meets Jacinta – the cute intern who knows her way around a photocopier, and Casey – the wicked witch of the firm. Noah becomes involved in a case where a woman has been killed during a mugging gone wrong. There's a grieving husband, a guilty employer, and an open and shut case involving lots of money. But right and wrong, and crime and punishment are soon entangled as Noah realises that things are seldom what they seem.

Review:
When I started reading, Noah’s Law, to be honest I didn’t have high expectations as I’d never read a book by the author and didn’t know what I was getting into. But after reading the book, I am very pleased to say that I am impressed, I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did!
Noah’s Law, is such an effortless and fun read. It’ll have you hooked and on the edge of your seat in no time and leave you wondering what will happen next! The plot was incredible, trust me, not a boring moment in the entire book. It’s the kind of story, that makes you wanna stay up all night. Stuff the fact it’s late, it’ll have you in a page flipping frenzy.
Noah...wow, what a fantastic male POV. Seriously, it’s like the author is actually a teenage boy, it’s that authentic and spot on. You name it, his thoughts, his obsession over girls, attitude and behaviour. I also loved his friend Amit and Jacinta, the intern at work, as they were great friends, that stuck around even if it meant getting caught up in murderous case!
This was my first book by Randa Abdel-Fattah and after really enjoying it, I can’t wait to check out some of her other books she’s written. Loved the authors humourous and witty style of writing. I also thought she did a splendid job writing about how the law industry works and all the detailed ins and outs. Wonder why...maybe it’s because, she works as a litigation lawyer!      :)
The story reminded me of, the TV show, Magnum P.I, that my mum and I used to watch. Except instead of a real, private investigator it was Noah (an inexperienced teen still at high school) who was on the case! If you STILL need convincing, how’s this. I hadn’t even finished the book (wasn’t even half way) and I felt like I could whole heartedly recommend it. Yes, it was that good!
