AAA: Jodi Meadows, author of Incarnate: Mini Guest Post

There’s no doubt about it, Incarnate is one of the prettiest covers of the year! Though don’t be fooled, it isn’t just nice to look at, it’s also a brilliant story, full of magic and spark. After devouring Incarnate at super speed, I am pleased to welcome Jodi Meadows, who has so generously stopped by to share with us a mini guest post on writing a sequel. Without further ado, the wonderful Jodi Meadows!
Mini Guest Post: The Sequel - Writing Book 2

ASUNDER went through many (ahem) incarnations. After INCARNATE snatched an agent, I got excited and went ahead and started writing book two, and finished the manuscript not long before my editor made an offer on the trilogy.

Of course, there were edits. Changes in INCARNATE necessitated changes in ASUNDER. I revised the manuscript based on critiquer comments, making huge changes. Then I revised it again based on what I'd done to INCARNATE after my editor's edit letter. When I finally I got the guts to send it to her, she asked for another sizable revision. I rewrote the beginning, tightened plot lines, dug deeper into the world building, and highlighted the themes that had been hiding before.

As I'm writing this, I just finished first pass pages on ASUNDER, which means that was my last chance to make any changes to the manuscript before it goes to print. It's been about two years since I wrote that first draft and the way I show the story has changed dramatically. But the story itself -- the heart and soul of it -- has only grown deeper and stronger. It's totally worth all the time I spent rewriting and revising and combing through the prose to make it as strong as I possibly can.

    1. I'm dying to get my hands on Asunder, too! Yes, I'm kind of scared of book 3 (or was it 2?). She was talking about copy edits and writing on twitter and she said she's not afraid to kill of her characters... :O
