Review: Confessions of an Angry Girl by Louise Rozett

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions #1) by Louise Rozett

Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make.

1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)

(Sorry. That was rude.)
Review:

I only recently found out about Confessions of an Angry Girl when I was given the opportunity to review it. After reading the blurb, I jumped at the chance and let’s just say…I am now a HUGE fan of the Confessions series!

I loved every single second; I never wanted it to end. Whenever I had some spare time (seconds turned into minutes, minutes then turned into hours…), you knew where to find me: READING.

Rose is smart, caring, awkward…and as the title suggests, angry. At the beginning I found her to be bitter but once I got further into the story, I became more understanding of her situation. Her dad recently died in Iraq and she’s not coping very well. Not to mention, her brother's away at college, her mum’s never around and her best friend has just joined the cheerleading team and is becoming someone she doesn't recognise. I really felt for Rose; all I wanted to do was reach through the pages and give her a big hug. As with her best friend, I wasn’t a fan of Tracy. She’s superficial, craves popularity and is obsessed with losing her virginity. Though she certainly won’t be winning the ‘Best Friend’ award anytime soon, I'm glad that we finally got to see a glimpse of the real Tracy in the end, the girl Rose originally became friends with. Jamie, the love interest, is older and more experienced than Rose and although at times he led her on, he really did care for her. I liked his character and hope we see more of him later on.

Whilst it was sad to see the story come to a close, I loved that it left me in a vibrant mood. Relatable, awkward and fun, Confessions of an Angry Girl had me laughing out loud multiple times. Luckily this is a series because I need MORE. I just wish I didn’t have to wait until 2013 for the sequel…

    1. It sure is! It's actually rather strange (but the good kind!) to have a new contemporary series on the YA scene. There are lots and lots of series releasing (dystopian, paranormal, etc) but hardly any of them are contmporary so it's a refreshing change! :D

  2. Lovely review, Rebecca! This was a really fun read and I know what you mean about Rose, she really grew on me and you're right about Jamie leading her on but I think we'll get to know more about him in book two! Bring on 2013!!

  4. I LOVE characters who make you FEEL. Who you want to claw through those pages and hug. I feel like I'm going to really sympathise with Rose. I also love that you say it's 'relatable, awkward and fun' seriously, those three words alone would sell me on this. And it's a series! I love series!

This sounds SO addictive and compelling and gosh darn FUN. Becca. I WANT TO READ THIS NOW. FABULOUS REVIEW. As. Always.

  5. It's great that this book is about Rose's anger, yet it leaves the reader happy. this is what contemporary books are supposed to be for. Funny, relatable and exciting depictions of life! I really hope that more YA contemps will be like this one because I enjoyed it just as much as you did.

Great review! I loved how you described the relationships Rose had perfectly because that was really the whole heart and soul of CoAG.

  6. I really wasn't sure about this one from the summary/description's I've read. Sounded like the main character could get kind of annoying to me. But your review definitely makes me want to give it a shot! I love books that can genuinely make me laugh out loud when I read them. :) Great review!

    1. It depends, I can definitely see readers getting annoyed with Rose but...not to me but then again, we are close in age. I hope you end up enjoying this when you get round to it! :)
