It's 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors
their whole lives. They've been best friends almost as long - at least, up
until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things
have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh's family gets a free AOL
CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on
her new computer. When they sign on, they're automatically logged onto their
Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn't been invented yet. And they're looking at
themselves fifteen years in the future.
Review:
When I heard about this novel, I was astounded
about the premise, it sounded so different and unique, I knew I had to get my
hand on it as soon as possible.
Before reading this novel I had yet to read
anything by these two authors except part of a book by Carolyn Mackler. Not
really having been immersed in their styles before The future of Us, I can now
say that prose wise their writing was reasonably enjoyable and I think they did
a good job collaborating.
I was expecting a lot and I mean a whole lot from
this book and sometimes it delivered and other times was disappointed as I
found it missed the mark.
The characters were okay, but were annoying at
times because of the silly decisions they made (yes, Emma I’m talking about
you). For me they were just alright.
I wish I hadn’t of set the bar as high as I did
because whenever I work up a book, it never seem to reach my expectations.
However, I was pleased with the ending and how they wrapped it up.

I'm really curious about this one and I'm still going to give it a go but I've lowered my expectations now :(
ReplyDeleteYes, the premise is so intriguing, that's why I picked it up in the first place. My rating's pretty low though compared to other reviews I've read who loved it and gave it like 5 stars. Hopefully you have better luck with it.

ReplyDeleteOh noes! I'd heard such good things about this one. It's always dissapointing when such a hyped book just doesn't work for you :/
ReplyDeleteI'm still curious about it, but 'm trying to re-adjust my expectations. I haven't read anything from either author (despite having had Thirteen Reasons Why at home on my shelf for over a year >.<)
