Review:
I’ve read a
lot of books in my lifetime, met a lot of characters but I’ve never been so
frustrated with a book before; this one takes the cake. For the first time ever
I actually experienced what it feels like to want to throw a book across the
room.
I have never been so disappointed, angry and
annoyed with a character. Yes Rob, I’m talking about you. As you can probably
tell from the blurb just as Rosaline and Rob finally start to get it together,
Juliet comes to town and ruins it all. Sure, she’s a big contributor to the
whole mess but I expected way more from Rob. The way he acted was inexcusable;
so selfish and ditsy and plain flaky. He was supposed to be Rosaline’s best
friend and this is how he goes and act’s? No, just no. As the book moves along
a few things are revealed but it still doesn’t make up for the way Rob
originally treated Rosaline.
Although I
felt for what Rosaline was going through, I didn’t like her character or relate
to her.
Love is blind, love is blind, love is blind…but it
just seemed unrealistic. I was waiting for Juliet to pull out her crazy love
potion elixir; I actually thought I was being Punk’d.

I agree with you - I originally really liked this, but I'm re-reading it again and realised that I don't actually feel a connection to Rosaline at all. And Rosaline is one of my favourite characters in Shakespeare, I adore her. I hate Romeo & Juliet, and I just wanted to slap Rob here. He's made out so wonderful at first and then falls for Juliet, but there's so much left open that it just doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that everyone that has read this one has had strong feelings about it in either direction, just like you suggest. I have had the opportunity to get my hands on it yet to make my decision, but mixed reviews just make me ITCH to find out how I feel. I love this story and one of these days I want to get my grabby hands on it.

Aw, *HUGS* Becca! I'm so sorry you didn't love this one. I SOOO understand what you mean... but Rob just made me feel so, so, SO sad... I was angry and frustrated, but I really admired Rosaline, and I love how much she grew because of her pain, and the romance with Len... but yes. OH YES... I can so understand how that frustration could tip the book in the other direction for you *hugs*
