Blogspiration (13): Kids Need To Read

Blogspiration is a weekly meme hosted by Growing Up YA & Saz101. The meme was created to help spark inspiration among bloggers, readers & writers alike. An inspirational quote/picture/video is posted weekly, on the day of the author's choosing, so that it may inspire creativity, conversation & just a little SOMETHING.

I saw this posted on Amanda @ On a Book Bender and after reading it and falling in love with what Nathan Fillion had to say about kids reading and the importance of giving them the opportunity to discover the magic of books, I knew I had to share this with you all. Looking back, it’s hard to imagine growing up without books and visits to the library and to think that there are kids out there who don’t know the power of a good book and getting lost in a whole new world is sad. Fill up the library with books and choices, stack the shelves high and low and at least give them the chance to read. That’s all anyone can ask.

    1. Since I've only seen him play Caleb in Buffy, I think of him as an evil and woman hating, creepy dude but...yeah. He's seems like a great person off screen! Haha! Go Team Library :)

  3. "Fill up the library with books and choices, stack the shelves high and low and at least give them the chance to read. That’s all anyone can ask. " AMEN, BECCA.

I love this post and the poster! I have so many fond memories spent in my own school library growing up - both in primary school and high school <3

When I spent a few weeks last year at a child care centre, it was seriously one of the best feelings seeing toddler age kids get engrossed in books (Spot! <3) or the 4 year old would grab a book from the bookshelf and start reading or ask me to read it to them. They didn't know the words, but it made it all the more adorable because they made up the words and used their own IMAGINATION. You are never too young to discover the beauty of stories and we so need to ENCOURAGE this!

    1. THANKS, B. ♥

Same! And I read SO many amazing books that without the school library, I never would never have read and had the opportunity to.

Spot! I love Spot! In fact, I still have Spot's Bedtime Storybook sitting on my shelf which my best friend gave me ^__^

Also, a big YES to everything you said ♥

  4. Oh I totally agree with this post Rebecca, I made sure my sisters got library cards as soon as they were able to start reading, I have two sister, one doesn't enjoy reading all that much now, but I love seeing my other sister's face light up as soon she enters the library!

  5. Libraries are so valuable now more than ever I think, which makes it heart-breaking to see them empty. All children should at least have the chance to read, I completely agree with that. That's a great image, Rebecca!

  6. I love this Rebecca!
I am part-responsible for the children's section of the library at work and I love it. I love the events we run to inspire children and I just love it when these come in and select their own books, or ask if I have a specific book in stock because they WANT to read. Makes me so happy <3
Kids should be able to read if they want to. Thanks for sharing this!

  8. BECCA! ♥

    I love this like WHOA.
Seriously, not only do I ADORE NATHAN FILLION (you know he's the main character in Firefly, Joss Whedon's other show? And he's the bad guy in s7 of Buffy, along with The First? And and and...) Becca. I LOVE. And I love it even more when people we already know and love and admire come out with something like this, and make us love and admire them even more.

That applies to you AND Nathan ;D

    ♥♥♥
